Distribution

Backpacked Addons are special in the fact they are both a resource and data pack in a single ZIP file, but how do you distribute the file? Both CurseForge and Modrinth have seperate sections for reosurce packs and data packs, however Backpacked addons should be simply treated as a resource pack. This means in both the CurseForge App (standalone) and Modrinth App, Backpacked Addons can be installed with one-click into players' game profiles.

CurseForge

Creating a Resource Pack project

  1. In the Authors Dashboard, navigate to Projects in the left sidebar, then click Start a Project button in the top right corner, or click this handy link to quickly start creating a new project.

  2. Select Minecraft as the game your project is designed for. Ensure that it is Minecraft, and not Minecraft Bedrock.

  3. Fill in the required Project Name, Logo, and Summary fields. The summary should mention that it is an addon for Backpacked. Using the keyword Backpacked in your summary will allow users to use the search functionality of CurseForge to filter resource packs for Backpacked addons. E.g. if the user searched for "backpacked", your addon will appear in the search results since the keyword appears in your summary.

Test

  1. For the Class field, select Resource Packs.

Test

  1. For the Main Category field, select the resoultion you used for the backpack textures. If the resoultion matches Minecraft's texture, you likely used 16x.

  2. For the Additional Categories field, select Mod Support and Data Packs tags as these best match a Backpacked addon.

Test

  1. Click Next at the bottom right, then fill in the Description. You should clearly mention that this is a Backpacked Addon to not confuse users who may come across your project.

  2. Click Next at the bottom right, and then you'll be prompted to Select a Project License. It is your choice on how you'll license your addon, however a more open license will allow other addon developers to learn from your work.

  3. For Project Distribution, allowing your project to be available to 3rd parties will allow for a wider reach but may slightly affect reward point generation. This is your decision on what you would like to do.

  4. Finally click Create at the bottom right.
